Pre-processing & standardisation

Preparing your data for action

If you want to make sure you contact certain people and avoid others, your database will need to be matched against suppression files' to remove goneaways'. Suppression files' are files of data that you wish to avoid contacting. Goneaways' are contacts that no longer exist as described. If you have further information you wish to add on or append', it is essential that we pre-process your data first in order to achieve the highest match rates.

Pre-processing and standardisation is an essential process to ensure that each data field contains the right information. It is quite common for example, that your address data may be captured with the street number and street name in different fields. However, the Market Location database often holds the street name and number in the same field. For matching purposes we need to ensure that the two files being matched are in exactly the same format to get the best results.

During this process we ensure that the town name is in the field called Town and the postcode is in the field called Postcode. We also verify and correct address and postcode details where necessary, using QuickAddress Software developed by QAS. In all client data sets we receive, there are always data standardisation issues to be resolved before the matching process can even begin.
